Walking The Lincoln Memorial Garden Trails By The Lake In Springfield, IL + Nature Center + Prairie
We discovered a beautiful area with some great walking trails on the banks of a lake in Central Illinois…the Lincoln Memorial Garden. We can hardly say we discovered it, since its been there since 1937, but for some reason, we had never heard of it until we Googled “nature centers” and “walking trails near us”. It looked like an interesting place, so went to check it out, and were very glad we did…it is very cool! Located on the southeastern shoreline of Lake Springfield at 2301 E. Lake Shore Dr., Springfield IL 62707, the Garden covers 100 acres and over five miles of trails through a variety of terrains. The aptly-named Lake Trail takes you on a scenic walk right along the edge of the lake, and it’s very relaxing to hear the water lapping against the shore beside you. The Lincoln Memorial Garden was created to honor Abraham Lincoln, and to do so, it features trees, plants, and flowers that he would’ve encountered on his walks through the three states he lived in during his lifetime…Illinois, Indiana, and Kentucky. The well-shaded Garden has several footbridges, eight stone council rings, a Nature Center, a pond, a prairie area, and the Split Rail Gift Shop. The Garden’s walking trails are open to the public from sunrise to sunset, while the Nature Center has specific operating hours that are posted on their website:
There is no admission fee, and we would recommend any and all to check out this hidden gem if you’re in the Springfield/Central Illinois area!

You can tell the greatness of a man by what makes him angry. My wife gets angry when the Chiefs lose. Hoping she stays happy for two more games lol
Loved these trails , such a pretty view !!
Thank you for posting the video. We visited the park five years ago with our son and his family. It is obvious from you video that we need to slow down in Springfield and visit again.
Take it easy with that Zoom Feature as it is very grating to us wage earners!
